I believe to solve problems for users, you have to understand them in the first place — their daily lifestyle, their needs and wants. After completing my Secondary Research, coming up with a Primary Research plan was essential.

To begin this process, I asked myself:

What did I know about my users? What were their needs, wants, and desires? What were my assumptions?

Simply put, I wanted to reach out to people who would be my users and understand their thoughts around period poverty and the stigma, their experiences in this domain, and what they wanted in an ideal world.

And that’s what I did!

Data Collection for Research

After receiving a whopping 75 responses from the survey, and then speaking with users one-on-one, I got some rich insights! Staying true to the research process was key, and that’s exactly what I did all along. Like they say, “Trust the Process!”

To make the research data digestible, I created a framework to understand my user’s needs, wants, and aspirations in a nutshell.

In an ideal world, menstruating individuals wanted to feel Empowered and wanted periods to be Accessible, Depolicitized and Gender Inclusive.

Ideal Experience Framework

Taking these insights allowed me to gain an in-depth understanding of my users, made me empathize with them, and will now help me generate solutions that will actually benefit them.
